Tag Shopping

Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity to clean my husband's family's vacation home (I like to clean). My daughter, Larkin, was my partner in cleaning grime! While making up the beds in preparation for guests, Lark and I came across an antique quilt on one of the beds. Now, I'm sure it's been there for years, but when I saw this quilt, I was amazed! It's a simple nine patch with sashing, but the handwork is very nice. I immediately wanted to know who made the quilt. There wasn't a label.

I've been known to give quits to family and friends and up until recently, I did not label my quilts. When I decided to open Graham Hill Studios, I realized I needed an emblem.

I designed an emblem (with my husband's help) for the website and any paperwork that is associated with the business side of things. Then, I had t-shirts made (so we'd all look put together for the farmers' market). I then went all crazy and had TAGS made for my handmade items. Here they are:

These tags were made by Top Stitch Embroidery in Lebanon, New Hampshire. I provided the fabric and they provided the sik screen. They left some space so I could stitch the tag into my quilts. Here's an example:

Thinking back to that quilt at the vacation home, I wondered a few things:

1. How old is the quilt?

2. Who made it?

3. Who was it made for?

So then, I made sure that I answered those questions on the back of my tag:

So, in 100 years or so, when you're cleaning your family's vacation home (and love it) and you come across this quilt, be sure to look for the tag and know that the person who made it wanted you to know it was made for someone special, for a special reason, by a special someone who loves that person very much!
